Flagship Project in 7 FactsBuilding a Legacy for Every Sakerette

1. WHAT IS THE EXSSA GLOBAL FLAGSHIP PROJECT ?

The Flagship Project is a strategic initiative by the Ex Saker Students Association – EXSSA, to construct an ultra-modern dining hall and kitchen facilities at Saker Baptist College in Limbe. This project replaces the aging 1962 structure, eliminates severe overcrowding and solves chronic maintenance issues that made continuous refurbishing attempts unproductive.

2. PROJECT JUSTIFICATION

      1. AGE OF INFRACSTRUCTURE:
The existing dining hall and kitchen were built in 1962-coinciding with the creation of Saker Baptist College, and have greatly outlived their structural and functional life span.
      2. SEVERE OVERCROWDING:
Student enrollment has multiplied over six decades, leaving the current facilities severely overcrowded and incapable of accommodating the ever-increasing student population.
      3. DETERIORATION AND SAFETY HAZARDS:
Decades of heavy usage have resulted in advanced structural degradation, compromised sanitary and plumbing conditions and outdated cooking infrastructure.
      4. FAILURE OF REFURBISHMENT STRATEGIES:
Repeated refurbishing efforts proved financially inefficient and structurally unsustainable, shifting the imperative from temporary repairs to a permanent capital investment.

3. KEY ADVANTAGES OF THE FLAGSHIP PROJECT

      1. HEALTH HYGIENE AND FOOD SAFETY:
A modern tile-finished, well-ventilated kitchen and spacious refectory will meet contemporary public health and food-handling standards, as well as drastically reduce contamination risks.
      2. DIGNITY AND STUDENT WELFARE:
Providing a clean, comfortable and well-lit communal space uplifts student morale, fosters a sense of worth, and honors the traditional sisterhood and fellowship of Saker life..
      3. OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCY:
Upgraded kitchen equipment will streamline meal preparation, lower energy and water consumption and reduce daily operational bottle-necks for kitchen staff.
      4. LONG-TERM COST EFFECTIVENESS:
Replacing an aging building with a durable modern facility eliminates recurring emergency repair costs and provides a lasting asset for future generations of Sakerettes.
      5. INSTITUTIONAL LEGACY:
s EXSSA landmark achievement, the Flagship Project reinforces alumnae commitment to academic excellence and holistic student care at their prestigious alma mater.

4. FLAGSHIP PROJECT COST

The baseline cost for the Flagship project stood at  200 million FCFA, to align with government funding for the said project under the Presidential Plan for the  Reconstruction and Development of the North West and South West Regions – The PPRD-NW/SW.

5. FLAGSHIP PROJECT FUNDING PARTNER/DONOR

      1. FUNDING PARTNER:

THE GOVERNMENT OF CAMEROON – THE PRINCIPAL FUNDING PARTNER
The Government of Cameroon under the Presidential Plan for the Reconstruction and Development of the North West and South West Regions – The PPRD-NW/SW made a generouse donation of FCFA 200 Million to EXSSA towards the construction of the flagship project making the PPRD the principal funding partner.
      2. DONOR:

THE UNITED NATIONS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME – UNDP
During a review to ensure the effective execution of the EXSSA Flagship project, the UNDP, acting as the project`s implementation partner, made strategic structural adjustments to the initial architectural plans. These modifications resulted in a total cost readjustment of FCFA 238.5 million FCFA. To bridge the funding gap between the PPRD allocation of FCFA 200 million FCFA and the project baseline launch budget, the UNDP committed to allocating an additional FCFA 38.5 million to the initiative.

6. IMPLEMENTATION PARTNER

The implementation partner for the EXSSA Flagship Project is the United Nations Development Programme UNDP which serves as the Administrative and accountability entity for the project.

7. INAUGURATION OF THE FLAGSHIP PROJECT

The Flagship project is scheduled for completion in December 2026. The Ex-Saker Students Association – EXSSA, is therefore planning to host a multi-dimentional event at Saker Baptist College, from January 28 to 31, 2027, to celebrate the inauguration of the flagship project alongside the 65th anniversary of our alma matar Saker Baptist College and 45th Annual General Meeting of its Alumnae Association – EXSSA.  The EXSSA Flagship Project stands as a testament to the generous support of the PPRD, the collaborative partnership of the UNDP, the diligent execution of the contractors, and the enduring vision of the alumnae and the entire Saker Baptist College community.
