Ms Playne Fuondjing
Member of the Pioneer batch of 1962, Saker Baptist College, Victoria
Student No. 10
President, Yaoundé Chapter, 1981–1989
National President of EXSSA, 1982–1992
Honorary President General of EXSSA, 2015–
In 1980, ex-students of Saker Baptist College nationwide with desire to meet again, began forming groups to establish an association that would enhance the life of the school, its students, and its ex-students. The Yaoundé chapter was formed, and I was elected President in 1981.
During the 20th anniversary celebrations of Saker Baptist College, our Alma Mater, in 1982, six chapters came together. Encouraged by the school authorities and several teachers, the vision of a national association was approved. It was there that I was elected the first National President — a post I held for ten years.
With the support of a strong executive, additional chapters including Mamfe and Bafoussam were created and inaugurated.
To guide the affairs of the association, a national constitution was written and consolidated. The name chosen was EXSSA — Ex-Students of Saker Baptist College — along with the beloved motto: ‘Love, Unity and Sisterhood’.
The well-celebrated Silver Jubilee was organised in 1987. At the 30th anniversary in 1992, at the request of the Principal, Mr. Tayui, i laid the foundation stone of the chapel. A project unanimously agreed upon by the association and called ‘A Project of Faith’. The Presidents who succeeded me initiated and completed the chapel. It now stands as a jewel in our College campus
My love for this prestigious institution led to twenty years of service as an Adviser, and to chairing the Organising Committee for the Golden Jubilee celebrations in 2012.
Through it all, the challenges and successes I experienced built the strength and character I now have for leadership roles within and beyond EXSSA. When the constitution was being revised, the post of Honorary President General was included. It was conferred on me in recognition of service as the first National President.
From small beginnings, EXSSA now has seven global chapters. With the tireless commitment of its members, our beloved Patrons, students, and staff, and with the help of God Almighty, we are ‘flying on Eagle’s Wings’.
I lift my hands on high to give God all the glory.
